The discoloration is caused by heat. You can limit the discoloration (and I say limit because afterall the Savage is only a single cylinder that is air cooled) by properly tuning the bike be it air/fuel mixture screw, re-jet, etc. Not to mention that the Jardine isn't the best quality chrome so it takes even less over-heating to blue. At any rate, I have used Blue-Job to remove the blue/brown from pipes. It takes a little elbow grease, but does not return quickly if the bike is properly or close to properly tuned. Good luck!
